This is a condition in
which the kidneys fail
to perform their normal
function of eliminating
waste products from the
body. It can be sudden
or slow and gradual.
There are
a variety of causes for
kidney failure,
including heart and
artery diseases, severe
urinary tract
infections, congenital
kidney disorders,
accidental kidney
damage, abuse of certain
drugs and chemicals.
Symptoms
include reduction in the
amount of urine produced
and presence of blood
and albumin (a protein
made in the liver) in
the urine. There may be
nausea, vomiting,
diarrhoea and headaches
and the person becomes
lethargic. Symptoms
develop due to
electrolyte imbalance
and acidosis. Fluid
retention, tiredness and
lethargy, pains, anaemia
and hypertension are
some of the common
symptoms. |
